PROP has partnered with several
organizations on our professional certification program and several
other projects. Check out their websites, their logo is the link...
PROP is the Pennsylvania affiliate to
the National Recycling Coalition (NRC) in Washington, DC. Founded
in 1978, the NRC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization representing
all the diverse interests committed to the common goal of maximizing
recycling to achieve the benefits of resource conservation, solid
waste reduction, environmental protection, energy conservation
and social and economic development. PROP was named NRC's first "Recycling Organization of the Year" in 2004
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful is an alliance of government, business, statewide non-profits, and local community groups.
It was organized to promote and protect Pennsylvania's natural and community environments through education, networking, research, stewardship, and influencing public policy to prevent litter, beautify Pennsylvania, and minimize the negative impacts of waste. PROP is a main partner in the Keep America and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful campaigns. Check out the information on upcoming events.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP) has been an important partner with PROP since
the organization's creation in 1991. DEP has been a major contributor in PROP's
successful Recycling Professional Certification program. The Department
also provides assistance for the Waste Watchers recognition program,
America Recycles Day, our annual conference, and several other
related activities.
In response to Act 101, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has established an extensive set of programs that promote and support the development and expansion of recycling at the local level. The primarily "supply-side" efforts by the Commonwealth have been crucial in achieving the current statewide waste reduction and recycling levels. In order for the Commonwealth to maintain or surpass current recycling levels, however, the base of businesses that use secondary materials must be sustained and, for some materials, expanded to ensure that there are sufficient buyers.
To address this need, a statewide recycling market development program has been established called the Recycling Markets Center (RMC).
Pennsylvania Material Trader is a website
designed, and maintained by the "Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers", to help businesses find markets for materials they have traditionally
discarded. Material Trader helps businesses, industries,
and institutions save resources and money. Businesses,
schools, and other organizations can utilize Material Trader to search for available
and wanted materials.
Conserves energy, resources, and landfill space by helping businesses and
organizations find alternatives to the disposal of valuable materials or wastes.
PROP has partnered with PA CleanWays'
on the Forest Lands Beautification Project, that remediated
and prevented illegal dumping in the Commonwealth's State Parks
and Forests. It is CleanWays' general mission to empower people
to eliminate illegal dumping and littering in Pennsylvania. In addition to cleanups, PA CleanWays
addresses problem disposal items, such as tires and appliances,
by providing recycling opportunities and by educating the public
on affordable and convenient disposal.
The Keystone Chapter of the Solid Waste
Association of North America has joined with PROP in several professional
certification programs and has also joined PROP in supporting
long term funding of recycling programs in the Commonwealth. The
two organizations hope to continue their cooperative efforts and
are discussing joint membership benefits and educational programs.
Despite slightly different priorities, the two groups are strong
supporters of comprehensive, integrated solid waste management
systems and hope to encourage such systems throughout Pennsylvania.
PROP is an advisory member of the Northeast
Recycling Council (NERC), a consortium of the ten northeast US
States from Delaware and Pennsylvania north to Maine. NERC's mission
is to minimize the amount of materials requiring disposal by promoting
the environmental and economic benefits of recycling and source
reduction in the Northeast.
Protecting our nation's environment
is of paramount concern to all Americans, as reflected in national polling
results that consistently rank the environment as one of the top three
priorities among consumers. It is the mission of Earth 911 to empower
the public with community-specific resources to improve their
quality of life. Through this Partnership,
economies of scale and scope are achieved, promoting this public service
across the nation and centralizing environmental resources into one user-friendly
network.
